Authentication in the personal area of the SNS 24 portal

How do I access the personal area of the SNS 24 portal?

To access the personal area of the SNS 24 portal, the user must previously authenticate through one of the following options:

  • Digital Mobile Key
  • Citizen Card
  • Health User Number

I have never registered in this area. How can I get access?

If you are not yet registered in the personal area of the SNS 24 portal, when authenticating, through one of the aforementioned means, you will be redirected to a page to confirm the registration. Here you can fill in the contact details you want to be associated, and follow the instructions.

What is the purpose of access to the personal area of the SNS 24 portal?

The personal area of the SNS 24 portal provides a series of features for registering, monitoring and sharing information between the user, health professionals and care providers of the National Health Service.

Making appointments, requesting renewal of chronic medication or requesting exemption from user fees are some of the services available.

Is there any service that I can use in this area if I do not authenticate myself by Digital Mobile Key, Citizen Card or through the Health User Number?

Citizens who do not have the means or do not wish to access the personal area of the SNS 24 portal through these forms of authentication, can still continue to contact SNS 24 – 808242424 – for the purpose of making appointments with your family doctor and for requests for exemption from user fees due to financial insufficiency.

If I don't activate the Digital Mobile Key and the Citizen Card PIN, does that mean I won't be able to access it?

No. If you do not activate the Digital Mobile Key or the PIN of the Citizen Card, you can access the personal area of the SNS 24 portal with your Health User Number.

I have a Identity Card for life. How can I access the personal area of the SNS 24 portal?

You can access it through your Health User Number.

Identity Card holders can request the Digital Mobile Key at a service desk of the Citizen Spaces. You can activate the Digital Mobile Key at the time of the request by indicating the user number of the National Health Service.

How should I authenticate with the Digital Mobile Key?

To authenticate using the Digital Mobile Key, you must follow these steps:

  • access the authentication area, select the "Digital Mobile Key" tab and click on "Authorize"
  • enter your phone number and PIN code – if you haven't changed your temporary PIN code yet, you'll be prompted to change your PIN code at this stage
  • Enter the security code that was sent to your phone – you have 5 minutes to do it
  • after entering the security code sent to the mobile phone, you must click on the "Confirm" button

Authentication through the Digital Mobile Key allows you to securely confirm your identity to access the personal area of the SNS 24 portal.

Is the security code I received on my phone/email to be used for all authentications?

No. The 6-digit security code you received is unique and temporary. At each authentication, you receive a new security code by SMS or email, according to the chosen authentication method.

I can't use my security code to authenticate myself. What should I do?

You need to restart your authentication process with your Digital Mobile Key by entering your mobile phone number, Digital Mobile Key PIN and the new security code, which is automatically sent to your mobile phone or email, according to your option.

I changed my phone number. What should I do?

You can change the mobile phone number associated with the Digital Mobile Key as follows:

  • in the reserved area of the autenticação.gov.pt page (click on the "Login" option in the upper right corner of the page) choose the "My Digital Mobile Key" tab, where you can consult and change the data associated with your Digital Mobile Key
  • In the face-to-face service in a CitizenSpace

I changed my email address. What should I do?

You can change the email address associated with the Digital Mobile Key as follows:

  • in the reserved area of the autenticação.gov.pt page (click on the "Login" option in the upper right corner of the page) choose the "My Digital Mobile Key" tab, where you can consult and change the data associated with your Digital Mobile Key
  • In the face-to-face service in a CitizenSpace

What do I need to have to authenticate with the Citizen Card?

To authenticate yourself with the Citizen Card, you must have:

  • Citizen Card with valid digital certificate
  • Citizen Card authentication PIN code
  • Card Reader
  • Internet access via browser that is supported by the authentication provider
  • software for the use of the Citizen Card installed and started

Authentication through the Citizen Card allows you to securely confirm your identity to access the personal area of the SNS 24 portal.

Do I need to have a card reader to authenticate myself through the Citizen Card?

yes. The card reader is a mandatory requirement to authenticate through the Citizen Card.

There are individual players, which can be connected to the computer via USB. Some computers already have built-in card readers where it is possible to place the Citizen Card.

If I don't want to continue using the personal area of the SNS 24 portal, what will happen to my health data?

If you do not want to continue using the personal area of the SNS 24 portal, you must send an email to SNS 24, informing that you do not want to have a personal area, indicating your personal data (name, SNS user number and date of birth).

Is there a deadline after which I lose access to my health information?

No deadline has been set after which you will no longer have access to your information. However, until you request to deactivate your account, the existing data remains in your area.

Can I continue to book appointments online in the personal area of the SNS 24 portal for my household?

yes. Only in the 'Book appointments' feature, you can add elements of your household, by filling in the name, date of birth and SNS number, in order to schedule an appointment in primary health care for that user/relative.

When you want to reschedule an appointment for that same or another user, you will always have to enter the data mentioned above.

What is the Digital Mobile Key?

The Digital Mobile Key (CMD) is a means of authentication and digital signature certified by the State Portuguese. It allows the user to access various public or private portals, and sign digital documents, with a single login.

The Digital Mobile Key associates a mobile phone number with the civil identification number for a Portuguese citizen, and the passport number or residence card/title for a foreign citizen.
