What is it?

Roseola, also known as sudden rash and sixth disease, is an infectious disease caused by the virus of the Togaviridae family, with humans being the only source of infection. It is a very common disease in children between 6 months and 3 years.

What are the symptoms?

Roseola causes:

  • low-grade fever
  • red, flat patches on the skin with small blisters
  • swollen lymph nodes
  • joint pain (more common in adolescents and adults)

How is it transmitted?

The virus that causes roseola is transmitted through the air.

What is the incubation period?

The incubation period is 14 to 23 days, usually 16-18 days.
