How is it transmitted?
Transmission occurs by:
- Ingestion of raw or undercooked food that contains the inactive form (cyst) of the parasite
- after contact with soil containing eggs in cat feces
How can you prevent toxoplasmosis?
There are some measures that can prevent toxoplasmosis:
- Wash your hands and all kitchen utensils thoroughly during food preparation, especially after handling raw meat
- Peel and/or wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly
- Cook food thoroughly
- Do not drink water that is not treated
- Wear gloves and wash your hands after gardening activities
I am pregnant and not immune to toxoplasmosis. Can I eat seafood?
yes. You can eat seafood as long as it is well cooked and freshly cooked.
